Meter Reading Export - Resolving Exceptions

Meter Reading Export - Resolving Exceptions

When the Meter Reading Export report contains exceptions, you need to resolve them before the export file can be used for billing. This page explains what each exception type means and how to fix it.

Exception types

Exceptions fall into two categories depending on whether the issue is with the AMR itself or with the availability of readings.

AMR-related exceptions

These appear in the Exception Reason column when the AMR has an issue that prevented a clean automatic reading. There are three causes:

  • The AMR has been flagged for investigation

  • The AMR is marked as being in exception

  • The AMR is quarantined

Reading availability exceptions

If the AMR itself is not the problem, the exception column will show: No manual or automatic reading was possible within the reporting period. This occurs when either:

  • There is no manual meter reading within the billing date and tolerance period

  • There is no usage recorded (including zero L/hr) between the billing date and tolerance date

Resolving each exception type

AMR flagged for investigation

  1. Look up the meter in the Property Dashboard — you'll see a flag indicator next to the AMR information.

  2. Click the flag icon to open the investigation popup.

  3. Click Remove the Flag for Investigation.

  4. Click Save.

  5. Regenerate the Meter Reading Export report — the record will no longer appear in the exceptions list.

AMR in exception

  1. Go to the Meter Readings Exceptions Management report.

  2. Locate the relevant AMR in the results.

  3. To process a single exception, click Process next to the row. A window will appear asking for investigation details — fill in the Cause and Confirmation fields, then click Save. (Both fields are required — you'll get an error if either is empty.)

  4. To process multiple exceptions at once, use the bulk processing option in the report.

  5. Click Cancel to close the window and return to the results without saving.

AMR quarantined

  1. Go to the AMR Quarantine Processing report.

  2. Click the Error Date for the AMR to open the Water Usage Report for the period around the quarantine. Look for an obvious high data point compared to surrounding readings.

  3. Once you've investigated, click Process on the Quarantine Management form to override the quarantine. Confirm the override and enter a description of your investigation.

  4. Regenerate the Meter Reading Export report.

For detailed guidance on identifying quarantine causes, see AMR Quarantine Processing.
