Radio Surveys
The Radio Surveys section of the Field Operations App lets a user run an RF coverage survey. A survey records every reception heard for one or more Taggle tags swiped in the field, so installers and customers can validate receiver coverage, confirm correct tag selection and installation configuration, and identify areas with poor radio performance.
The Survey Tool is available on the Android version of the Field Operations App from version 4.2.3 onwards.
Before you start: server-side sync required
After installing or updating to version 4.2.3 build 194, you must run a Sync Data before the Survey Tool will work. The sync pulls down the new System Constants and access permissions that the Survey Tool depends on. Without it, the tile will open but the tool will not function correctly.
To run the sync, open the Dashboard, tap Sync Data under Data Management, and complete the sync. The System Constants row will show SYNC with a checkbox ready to tick; make sure that row is included. See Synchronise Data Store for the standard sync steps.
You only need to do this once per device after the upgrade.
How a survey is structured
A radio survey is recorded in three layers.
Layer | What it is |
|---|---|
Survey | A named recording session, usually scoped to a customer instance, a geographic area, or a job. A survey can run across multiple days and contains many Radio Tests. |
Radio Test | A single Listen event at one location, for one or more tag IDs. Each test captures GPS, optional installation and location notes, and every reception heard inside the 90-second listening window. |
Reception | A transmission heard by a single receiver or cell during a Radio Test. Each reception records its source (Receiver ID for Byron, Cell ID for NB-IoT), signal metrics, and timestamp. |
Supported tag types
Radio Surveys supports the following Taggle device families on the IOTv2 platform.
Byron HP and Byron SP
NB-IoT. Initially restricted to NB3D devices to ensure reception data is sourced from IOTv2.
Older non-IOTv2 devices are not supported by the Survey Tool.
Who uses the Survey Tool
Two groups have access through their normal Field Operations App login.
Customers log in to their own Aqualus Water instance and run surveys against tags they have access to.
Installers log in through the customer instance they are performing work for.
Reaching the Survey Tool
The Survey Tool tile sits under a Radio Surveys section on the Dashboard, between the Meter Readings section and the Data Management section. The tile is always visible and tapping it opens the Create Radio Survey screen.
